Introduction to this blog/podcast

Would you like to broaden your musical horizons?

China, Taiwan, Singapore, and other Chinese-speaking areas are home to some beautiful and stirring music. I intend to use this blog to introduce some of it to non-Chinese speakers.

I've lived in China for two years, and visit China often. In addition, my wife is Chinese and keeps me up on the latest musical trends. It's mostly through her that I found out about the great music coming out of China, and I thought more people should know about it.

How this blog came to be

My dad and his friends have a monthly get-together known as Music Night, in which each member puts together a 30-minute CD of favorite songs to play for the group. They often put in introductions to the songs also. Over the years I've wished I could do the same kind of thing for the Chinese and world music that I've encountered, but I didn't think I could make a straight podcast for iTunes since I don't have the rights any of the music.

Recently, though, I found the Yahoo Music Player, which automatically plays songs that are linked to from a webpage. This allowed me to find Chinese songs I wanted to play that are already hosted somewhere online, link to them, and record my own intros to go in between.

What this blog is

Note that this is really a blog, not a podcast. You must listen to the songs from this webpage; you can't download the whole show to your iPod. If that is something you'd like to do, please tell me about it (in the comments or at my email address) and I'll look into other options.

Happy listening!
